Notes on new language that captures online culture.

Neologism

any newly formed word, term, or phrase that nevertheless has achieved popular or institutional recognition and is becoming accepted into mainstream language.

compound noun

a noun made up of two or more existing words, e.g. cat food or playgroup.

conflate

combine (two or more sets of information, texts, ideas, etc.) into one.

malaphor

An idiom blend: an error in which two similar figures of speech are merged, producing an often nonsensical result.

portmanteau.

a blend—also known as a blend word, lexical blend, or portmanteau is a word formed by combining the meanings, and parts of the sounds, of two or more words together. An English example includes "smog", coined by blending smoke and fog.

All of these are spaced, but could contain hyphens or be without spaces between the words.

Is it verb-noun or noun-verb or verb-verb or noun-noun?

Build a database for words to combine. Is there an existing online thing like this already? Can I build it in JavaScript? Is there an ai model for making these that is more useful or interesting?

Be careful what you wish for: When dystopian fiction becomes the operating manual for political reality.

Why the fascination on these new words? Is it a way to coin ideas that come into our everyday parlance. They are common in politics because they boil down ideas into something easy to say, meme ready. These new words are a form of tech. Some can be dog whistles that hide deniable antisocial implications.
